International Museum Day has been celebrated every May since 1978. On this special day, museums focus on their diversity and importance – for example, by exploring socially relevant topics.

On International Museum Day, the spotlight at Ballenberg will be on bees. Bees are important indicators of the state of biodiversity. Many plants and insects have evolved in parallel with each other. In other words, if the insects are doing well, the bees are doing well, and vice versa. So, we’re tackling this year’s theme of biodiversity and transforming our bee exhibition in the barn from Faulensee BE (341) to focus on insects, too. Beekeeping will remain a key topic. The exhibition will be launched on International Museum Day: why not come to the opening?
